Complete Setup Guide for SHG S 131 SC-PL-NC In-Ear Headset

1) Identifying and Selecting Your SHG S 131 Ear Tip

Selecting the correct size is the foundation of all-day comfort. The SHG S 131 includes three sizes marked with “S,” “M,” or “L” at the end of each label on the bag. Because this is a monaural device, the tips are anatomically molded for specific ears. To ensure you have selected the correct tip for your preferred ear, use the “Cylinder and Tail” method.

• Grasp the round cylinder on the back of the tip. Rotate the tip so the “tail” is hanging downward.
• The tail will point to the Left for your Left and to the Right for your Right ear.

Once you have selected the size and orientation that matches your ear, you are ready to assemble the SHG S 131 headset.

TECH TIP: Stand in front of a mirror when fitting the ear tips. Seeing what you’re doing will significantly help you get a feel for where it needs to fit.

TECH TIP: It’s best to dry fit a Small, Medium and Large ear tip in your ear before attaching it to the headset. You want the largest size possible, for the most secure fit.

2) Attaching the Ear Tip

The ear tip presses onto the rectangular box speaker housing. The round cylinder of the ear tip will press onto the the matching round ring located on the speaker housing.

• Press the Ear-Tip: Hold the headset by the speaker housing. Take the ear tip and point the tail upward. Press the round opening of the ear tip onto the round cylinder of the speaker housing.

• Perpendicular Alignment: Rotate the ear tip so the tail is upward. Initially, position the opening of the ear tip (where sound comes out) to be horizontal. Position the microphone boom arm so it is vertical. The ear tip opening and the boom should be perpendicular to each other.

• Cable Positioning: Ensure the main quick-disconnect cable is routed down and to the inside of the boom arm (the side closest to your cheek).

TECH TIP: Proper cable routing is essential. By keeping the cable on the inside of the boom arm, you prevent the weight of the cord from pulling the arm away from your face.

With the headset assembled and the cable properly routed, you can now transition to wearing the device.

3) Achieving a Secure In-Ear Fit

A secure fit is the difference between a headset that feels “sloppy” and one that stays in place during high-stakes calls.

To wear the headset, insert the ear tip towards your ear canal first. Once inserted, give the ear tip tail a slight push. You will feel the “tail”  seat itself into your ear cavity. You will know you have it “just right” when you feel the tail lock in; it should feel snug and integrated with your ear rather than just sitting on the surface.

Checklist for a Secure Fit

• Tactile Confirmation: Did you feel the tail seat into the ear cavity?
• The Shake Test: Move your head up, down, and side-to-side. The headset should not wobble or shift. If it feels loose, try moving up one ear tip size.
• Comfort Check: The fit should be secure but never painful.

A secure physical fit provides the foundation for clear, uninterrupted communication.

4) Audio Optimization: Microphone Placement & Windscreen

The SHG S 131 features a passive noise-canceling microphone. To ensure your callers hear you naturally, we recommend using the included foam windscreen to soften “plosives” (hard letters like P and B) and prevent wind whistling from your breath.

• Measurement: Position the microphone boom so the tip is 1–2 finger widths from the corner of your mouth.
• Placement: Avoid placing the microphone directly in front of your mouth. If it is too close (less than 1 finger width), the noise-canceling feature may struggle with breath “popping,” even with the windscreen installed.
• Adjustment Technique: When moving the boom, use a “first finger and thumb” grip on the speaker casing. Use your other hand to slide the boom up or down and rotate as needed. This prevents you from accidentally pulling the headset out of your ear while making adjustments.

Now that your audio is optimized, the final step is ensuring the headset remains stable throughout your shift.

5) Secure Headset Stability with the Clothing Clip

Because the SHG S 131 is exceptionally lightweight, the weight of a bottom cable or amplifier can easily tug the headset out of alignment. Even a perfectly positioned microphone is useless if the headset is pulled out of place by cable weight. The barrel-shaped clothing clip is the solution to this “pulling” sensation.

• Attach the Clip: Secure the barrel clip to your collar or the shoulder of your shirt.
• Adjust for Slack: Ensure there is enough slack in the cable above the clip to allow you to rotate your head fully side-to-side without the cable tightening.
• The Tension Test: Pull on the cable below the clothing clip. If the clip is positioned correctly, you should feel no tugging or movement on the headset itself.

By using the clothing clip, you isolate the headset from the weight of the cables, ensuring your fit remains perfect from the start of your shift to the end.
