Headset Compatibility – Find out about headset compatibility BEFORE you buy!

It’s easy to get caught up in compatibility issues when buying a headset.

It used to be plug cable ‘A’ into slot ‘B’ but now you MUST find out before you buy…what you really need!!!

 Headset Compatibility

A corded headset solution for your office phone will require either an amplifier or direct-connect cable to plug between your headset and phone.  For many newer phones, the amplifier is built into the phone.  If this is the case, you need to determine which direct-connect cable will be required and not just randomly pick one.  Calling or checking a compatibility guide will ensure you’re getting the correct cable to work with your phone system.

If you’re considering a wireless headset for your office, you also have a compatibility challenge.  To answer remotely, you will need either a handset lifter or an EHS cable.  A handset lifter works well on most older phones, but that’s not the case on newer phones that stand almost upright.  EHS cables come in a variety of versions, all dependent on your phone.  One size does not fit all!

Bluetooth headsets also have compatibility limitations.  Basic models will only pair to mobile phones that are Bluetooth ready, while others will use a dongle to allow usage on your mobile and PC.

Much more important than buying the first headset that looks good with a good price is determining what you need for compatibility with your phone.  Buying the wrong parts or needing a second order for necessary items wastes your time and money.
