The first version, Discovery 640 was much smaller and lighter than other Plantronics Bluetooth headsets. The second version, the 645 was externally the same with only an internal change that implemented digital signal processing or DSP. This new technology increases your outgoing microphone quality. This newly designed Discovery 655 also has the DSP technology for clear conversations. It has a new chiseled look when compared to the first two Discovery headsets which were round in shape. The biggest improvement of the 655 is how it fits into the charger. The original design of the 640 and 645 would allow the headset to loosely plug into the charger. With a little movement of the charger, the headset would come lose, and not charge. You could also lose the headset because it would fall out of the charger. With the new Discovery 655, the headset pushes firmly into the charger and you can feel that the headset and charger have made a good contact. There are many great features of the Plantronics Discovery 655. The most impressive is an accessory you can purchase. It gives you the ability to use your phones current charger to charge the headset. There are small adapters you attache to the headset charger that's compatible with the most common cellular phones. Simply put, you don't have to carry another charging cord. This was an excellent concept that Plantronics came up with to make life easier for people on the go. The unit comes with an A/C cord as the standard method of charging but also includes a cord and adapter to plug into your computer's USB port for charging. In an emergency, there is also an attachment that lets you use one AAA battery to charge the headset. There are 3 different sized ear tips so you should be able to find one that's comfortable. In the event you feel the fit isn't snug, there is an ear hook included that can be attached to the headset so it will rest over and behind your ear. The only negative with the unit is the on/off/answer button. It takes a very firm push of the button to active the headset. As your pushing the button, you must have a good grip on the rest of the headset with your remaining fingers. Once pushed, you will need to reposition the unit in your ear. It's not a big issue, but worth noting.
