The listed instructions are for two Plantronics Wireless Headsets with or without an HL10 handset lifter.

Wireless Training Cable

There are different Plantronics products that can be used with this adapter.  See our website for other configurations in the HDI Wireless Training Adapter User Guide.

Training Adapter (03929-63): The training adapter ships with its own cord. The cord plugs into the end of the training adapter where you see the word TEL. This cord should not be traded out for a longer cord.  On the other end of the adapter there is an A jack and a B jack, this is where your wireless headsets will be plugged in.

Setting up the first wireless headset:

Note:  Some phones also have a HEADSET jack, if you have a HEADSET jack on your phone, do not plug this training adapter into it, the adapter will not work.  It must be plugged into the HANDSET jack for people to be able to hear you.

Step 1: On your phone, unplug the cord that is in the handset jack, (this cord comes from the wireless headset charging base).

Step 2: Take the cord you just unplugged from the phone’s handset jack and plug it into the A jack on the training adapter.

Step 3: Take the cord plugged into the training adapter next to the word TEL and plug it into the now empty handset jack on your phone.

You now have your primary wireless headset attached to the training adapter.

Setting up the second wireless headset:

Step 1: Take the cord from the second wireless base (this is the cord that would normally be plugged into the telephone) and plug it into the B jack on the training adapter.  Note: On the underside (older units) or back side (newer units) of the wireless charging base, there is a picture of a telephone, the cord coming from this jack is the one you will plug into the B jack on the adapter.

Step 2: Make sure you have the power adapter for the second headset plugged into the charging base and the other end plugged into a wall outlet or power strip.  The power indicator lights should be visible on both bases.

To configure the settings on the wireless training adapter:

On the training adapter where the single wire is coming from, next to TEL, there is a slider switch with two positions, 1 & 2, make sure the switch is sitting under number 2 when using two wireless headsets.

On the top of the training adapter there are two buttons for muting.  A is for the wireless headset plugged into the A jack and B is for the wireless headset plugged into the B jack.  When the button is up, that headset can be heard, when the button is pushed down, that headset is muted.  You can configure the headsets either way for talking or listening purposes.  This is also a great way to make a conference call with colleges.

Testing for a dial tone:

Note: If you are not using an HL10 handset lifer, you will first need to take the handset out of the cradle and sit it off to the side of your phone to get a dial tone.  Turn on the headset plugged into A, you should have a dial tone, turn on the second headset, it should also have a dial tone.  You are now ready to start using your training adapter.

Headsets Direct developed a product several years ago that allows you to use your Plantronics wireless headsets for training purposes. This little device, part number 03929-63, will work on just about any office phone that your Plantronics wireless headset works on. It’s really very simple to set up and use. It allows you to choose which headset you would like live and which headset you would like muted. With two Plantronics wireless headsets each person could be sitting at their own desk while on the same call, just keep in mind the headsets need to be within range of both bases and the two bases will be on one desk connected to one phone. You could also leave both headsets live (maybe for a mini conference call).

HDI’s wireless training adapter can be used on a wide range of Plantronics wireless and corded products. Note: I’m not sure if other brands of headsets will work with this wireless training adapter, as Plantronics is the only brand we sell. In most scenarios the training adapter plugs into the HANDset Jack on your phone.

Here are a few examples of Plantronics products that can be used on the wireless training adapter:

1. Wireless headsets; two are needed.

2. Some of Plantronics corded products without a quick disconnect:  Like the S11  and S12 units; in the past there was not a way to train on either of these units with two headsets in use. (There are a couple different ways to set up the training adapter when using the S11 and S12 units.)

3. Use one wireless headset and your telephone’s HANDset receiver.

4. Use one wireless headset and one vista amplifier with headset.

Note: If using one vista amplifier and two H-series headsets, it is best to go with the Plantronics

Y-Training adapter.

Problem: Do you offer any way to train a new employee if we are using wireless headsets or a mixture of wireless and corded headsets?

03929-63-Wireless-Training-AdapterYes, we do carry a wireless headset training adapter (part number 03929-63). This unit was developed and designed by Headsets Direct and sells for only $39.95. Prior to the Wireless Headset Training Adapter, training required both users to sit next to each other while using corded headsets. With this unit you can have two people on the phone at the same time and in two different locations while your trainee is listening in to the conversation (headset has to be within range of base and both bases will be on one desk connected to one phone). The wireless headset training adapter also works great for conference calls and it is a great device for an individual that wants the freedom and mobility of a wireless headset while monitoring a new trainee. Also works great for companies that are running multiple shifts, because you are able to have two or more wireless headset systems connected to the telephone at the same time. However if you are using a handset lifter, you will need to plug it into whichever individual’s headset system that is being used to work properly.  So while using one wireless unit, the other unit can be charging for the second shift users (very popular with hospitals).

Wireless Solutions: Most of the Plantronics wireless systems will work, like the older CA10/CS10, CS50 or newer CS55, CS351N, CS361N, CS70N or the 510S, (CT12, CT14 and the CalistoPro are not compatible with the wireless training adapter). This training adapter is compatible with the new Savi wireless systems, just make sure both of the Savi bases are on setting A. Simply plug two wireless systems into the wireless training adapter. There are two mute buttons on the top of the adapter; either or both microphones can be muted with a push of a button to provide listen-only capabilities, so basically whatever configuration you might need. Use setting 2 on the back of the training adapter for this configuration.

Corded Solutions: You are not limited to wireless headsets when using this training adapter, most of Plantronics corded headsets along with a Plantronics vista amplifier will work with the wireless training adapter. You can also use one wireless headset system and a vista amplifier along with an H-series headset. Plug a wireless unit into “A” and any of the older or newer vista amplifiers into “B”. The training adapter needs to be on setting 2 on the back of the training adapter for this configuration.

Corded Headset Systems Solutions: If you have an office system like an S10, S11, S12, T10 or T20 in your office, the wireless training device will work just fine with those units as well. Leave your unit plugged into the phone (as is) and plug the wireless training adapter into the headset jack on your base, then plug two headsets into the wireless training adapter A & B. You will use setting 1 on the back of the training adapter for this configuration, because you are using two headsets with one base.

I was talking to a customer of a small insurance agency about a problem he was having with getting a new employee quickly up to speed to assist clients with questions from incoming calls.  The challenge as he described it is every time we have a new hire, or even expand job duties during times of downsizing, there is a need to have an employee be able to learn how to handle calls, answer questions and provide necessary answers to clients.  In his current situation, the new person would sit next to an experienced co-worker in a cubical for weeks while they listened to one side of the conversation.  After the call, most of the time is spend repeating the conversation so the new employee can hear what the caller was asking and what answer was provided.  Hearing the problem, I was easily able to offer a solution of a headset Y-Training CableThey were already using headsets in the office, so a simple $39.95 cable was the only necessary equipment.  A y-training cable allows you to plug two headsets into one telephone.  Both headsets will be able to hear the phone conversation, but only one microphone will be live while the other is muted.  There is a toggle switch in the Y-cord that allows you to control which microphone is live.  For this situation, the experienced worker will have the live microphone and carry on normal conversations with clients.  The new hire, or trainee, will listen into the call and now have the ability to hear both sides of the conversation making a gigantic step forward in the learning curve of what to say and how to respond to clients because now you’re hearing the entire conversation instead of a one sided conversation as before.  As you can see for an extremely small investment, you can increase the speed of training and have new employees up and going on their own in a fraction of time with the use of a y-training cord.
