The listed instructions are for two Plantronics Wireless Headsets with or without an HL10 handset lifter.

There are different Plantronics products that can be used with this adapter. See our website for other configurations in the HDI Wireless Training Adapter User Guide.

Training Adapter (03929-63): The training adapter ships with its own cord. The cord plugs into the end of the training adapter where you see the word TEL. This cord should not be traded out for a longer cord. On the other end of the adapter there is an A jack and a B jack, this is where your wireless headsets will be plugged in.

Setting up the first wireless headset:

Note: Some phones also have a HEADSET jack, if you have a HEADSET jack on your phone, do not plug this training adapter into it, the adapter will not work. It must be plugged into the HANDSET jack for people to be able to hear you.

Step 1: On your phone, unplug the cord that is in the handset jack, (this cord comes from the wireless headset charging base).

Step 2: Take the cord you just unplugged from the phone’s handset jack and plug it into the A jack on the training adapter.

Step 3: Take the cord plugged into the training adapter next to the word TEL and plug it into the now empty handset jack on your phone.

You now have your primary wireless headset attached to the training adapter.

Setting up the second wireless headset:

Step 1: Take the cord from the second wireless base (this is the cord that would normally be plugged into the telephone) and plug it into the B jack on the training adapter. Note: On the underside (older units) or back side (newer units) of the wireless charging base, there is a picture of a telephone, the cord coming from this jack is the one you will plug into the B jack on the adapter.

Step 2: Make sure you have the power adapter for the second headset plugged into the charging base and the other end plugged into a wall outlet or power strip. The power indicator lights should be visible on both bases.

To configure the settings on the wireless training adapter:

On the training adapter where the single wire is coming from, next to TEL, there is a slider switch with two positions, 1 & 2, make sure the switch is sitting under number 2 when using two wireless headsets.

On the top of the training adapter there are two buttons for muting. A is for the wireless headset plugged into the A jack and B is for the wireless headset plugged into the B jack. When the button is up, that headset can be heard, when the button is pushed down, that headset is muted. You can configure the headsets either way for talking or listening purposes. This is also a great way to make a conference call with colleges.

Testing for a dial tone:

Note: If you are not using an HL10 handset lifer, you will first need to take the handset out of the cradle and sit it off to the side of your phone to get a dial tone. Turn on the headset plugged into A, you should have a dial tone, turn on the second headset, it should also have a dial tone. You are now ready to start using your training adapter.

If you have any questions, please give us a call at 800-914-7996; we will be more than happy to assist you.

We have customers calling from emergency call centers asking about headsets for the consoles they are using. One of the first questions we ask is, “Are you using a 4-wire or 6-wire application”? It is important that we have the correct information so we can get the correct equipment for your needs.

Products for 4-Wire Applications

Corded Solution: For a corded solution for a 4-wire application let’s start with the Plantronics P10 (29362-01) amplifier. This amplifier will work on any operator console, PBX or ACD. Its volume & automatic gain controls lets you adjust the volume to a level that is comfortable for you. Any of Plantronics H-series headsets will work with the P10. Please note with 4-wire systems the user will need to use a foot pedal or the button on the console to toggle between the radio and telephone.

Wireless Solution: If you would like to use a wireless headset (like the CS55) you will need a Plantronics 18709-01 (PJ327).This is a 2-Prong to Modular Adapter that plugs into the console, then the wireless headset plugs into the PJ327. Just keep in mind you cannot answer remotely by using your wireless headset. You must answer on your system first, then push the button on your wireless headset to take the call. Once you have the call, you now have up to a 300’ or 350’ range (depending on which wireless unit you are using) from the base of the Plantronics wireless system, and you are hands free.

Products for 6-Wire Applications

Corded Solution: A corded solution for a 6-wire application would be the SHS1890 PTT (push to talk) Amplifier, it is offered in three different lengths 10, 15, or 25 feet. This adapter lets you toggle between your console and phone with just a push of a button. You will also need to choose an H-series headset to use with the CA12CD to complete the set-up.

If you prefer to go wireless, then the CA12CD might be the choice for you. This system comes with a dual battery pack and two charging wells; one for the remote unit, while the other facilitates charging the extra battery pack (supplied with unit). It runs on DECT 1.9 GHz. It has a push-to-talk amplifier for 6-wire applications, and a 2-prong PJ-7 connector (equivalent to WE-425). It has Digital (DECT™) technology operating in the 1.9GHz radio band to provide superior voice clarity and security. Lithium-Ion battery packs provide longer talk time (approximately 8 hours) and faster recharge rates. Just a note here, Plantronics recommends using the first battery for the first half of a shift and then replacing it with a fresh battery for the second half, this will prolong the life of the batteries. It also has a robust PTT switch with selectable locking/non‐Locking operational modes. The push-to-talk amplifier has a quick disconnect feature to be used with the Plantronics H Series headsets. The CA12CD comes with a 1-year warranty. The H-series headsets have a 2-year warranty.

Being new to the headset industry here at Headsets Direct, I have the opportunity to try different types of headsets. What feels better, works better, and let’s face it looks better. I have the privilege to see, try, and experiment with the different types of headsets offered from Plantronics. Let’s face it, I love being mobile and able to walk away from my desk. I can receive faxes while talking on the phone and walk to the copy machine. I can stand, stretch, & walk the room wearing a wireless headset.

When I came to work at HDI, my co-workers directed me to the compatibility guide on the Bluetooth headsets. Now I can actually drive and use both hands on the steering wheel like we should do, using a Bluetooth headset. Yes I picked one for my cell phone! I picked a simple Bluetooth for me, an Explorer 240. It is inexpensive and easy to pair up with my LG cell.

When you need something you are unfamiliar with, I would recommend that you look at your options carefully, and then jump in with both feet. I decided for the office, that I wanted something wireless with a noise cancelling microphone. I chose the Plantronics Savi WO200. This will work with my computer and telephone here at work. My co-workers helped make a believer out of me! I am now ready to be the newbie on the block with my own headsets.

Welcome to the 21st century. Rotary push button phones with a cord, what a tangled mess. NO MORE! No more cradling the handset between your shoulder and ear. No more neck aches. I can slip it on my head like a headband or, slip it over the ear. Wireless telephone headsets wow! How nice to be free!

“VoIP” stands for Voice over Internet Protocol, which just simply means that you are communicating or talking over the internet. When searching for wireless VoIP headsets, it’s not so much the “VoIP” that makes the difference as it is the VoIP device that is being used. VoIP does not just refer to one type of device, meaning for example that VoIP could be referring to soft phone software used on a computer and laptop or it could be just referring to a regular type IP “hard phone”. A regular type IP hard phone will look just like a standard traditional telephone, but it communicates over the internet instead of a traditional phone line. So when looking for a wireless VoIP headsets, it really does depend on which type of device that you are actually using, whether it be a computer or IP telephone. Wireless VoIP headsets may either have some sort of USB cable connected to the headset base unit or adapter such as a USB Bluetooth dongle to connect into a computer, or it could have a cable with a regular phone type connection which would plug into either a dedicated headset jack (typically for Cisco 7940, 7960 & 7970 model phones) or the handset receiver jack (which is the most common) on the base of a telephone. There are a few different wearing styles to choose from when searching for a wireless VoIP headsets. You can get a traditional over the head style in either a single or dual ear version such as the CS351N and CS361N, you can get an over the ear model with an ear bud that goes in your ear such as the CS70N and the Savi W430 USB, or you can get a convertible model that comes with both a headband and ear loops so that it can be worn either way such as the CS50-USB and the CS55. We even have wireless VoIP headsets that will connect to both a telephone and a computer such as the Savi Office series WO100, WO200, WO300 and WO350. So once you know exactly which VoIP device you will be using, finding a wireless VoIP headset is a snap.

Supraplus monaural, Encore monaural, and Supra monaural telephone headsets, the proper choice when hearing aid compatibility is required according to the Electronic Industries Association – (EIA) RS-504

Problem: I have hearing aids and I want to know what telephone headset is best for me?

Answer: First, we will briefly discuss the three types of hearing aids that you will be using with your telephone headset. There is the behind-the-ear (BTE) type and it is supported by an ear hook. The microphone is located at the apex of the ear and the receiver in the body produces the sound that travels through a tube into the ear. BTE aids generally have a telecoil which can be connected in place of the microphone by manually activating a miniature switch on the aid.

In-the-ear (ITE) aids partially fill the bowl of the ear. They generally incorporate a telecoil. There is a tendency for the ITE aid to feed back, or howl, when the ear is covered by a telephone receiver, although some of the new phones are compensating for that. The feedback is generally avoided when the telecoil pick-up is used.

Finally you have canal aids. They are small and fit predominantly within the ear canal, so are the most discreet when worn. Canal aids have not previously contained telecoils since the switch is not easily to manipulate.

So, what telephone headsets does Plantronics recommend for use with hearing aids? The SupraPlus monaural, Encore monaural and Supra monaural telephone headsets are the proper headset choices when hearing aid compatibility is required since these headsets meet the Electronic Industries Association (EIA) RS-504 recommended standard for hearing aid compatibility and are compatible with BTE aids, ITE aids and canal aids (if they have telecoils). The Tristar and Mirage telephone headsets are not compatible with BTE style hearing aids due to interference with behind-the-ear placement of the headsets and they have insufficient magnetic flux output to meet EIA 504.

Of course, you will need to make sure your headset is compatible with your telephone. For that, you can contact the telephone headset experts at Headsets Direct (800-914-7996) and they will help you get the most out of hands free communication.
