Wouldn’t it be nice if all computer and electronic devices were on an even playing field. That no computer would be looked down on (perhaps because he may have a little age on him) but be on the same level as its peers, actually communicate peer-to-peer. Peer-to-Peer devices…what are we talking about here with regards to today’s communication technology?

You could say that peer-to-peer networking is the approach wherein all computers share the same responsibility for processing data. This networking (also known as peer networking) differs from the current client-server networking, where certain devices have the responsibility for providing or “serving” data while other devices consume or act as “clients” of those devices.

Computers in a peer-to-peer network use the same protocols and software. Peer networks are oftentimes situated physically near to each other, most typically in homes, small businesses or schools. Some peer networks, however, use the Internet and can be located anywhere in the world. Hybrid peer-to-peer (and client-server) devices are home networks that utilize broadband routers that provide centralized Internet connection sharing. File, printer, and other resource sharing is managed directly between the local computers within the network.

What are some of the benefits of peer-to-peer communication devices? First, you can configure computers in peer-to- peer workgroups to allow sharing of files, printers, and other resources throughout all the devices in the workgroup. Also, peer networks allow data to be shared easily in both directions, whether you want to download it to your computer or upload it from your computer to another. On the internet, peer-to-peer networks can handle a very high volume of file sharing traffic by distributing the load across many computers. Since they do not rely exclusively on central servers, peer networks scale better and are more flexible than client-server networks in case of failures or bottlenecks when sharing information.

Since so much peer-to-peer networking involves computers, you’re probably wondering what computer headsets there are that can be used to make your work easier. Plantronics, backed by over 50 years of headset innovation, offers an excellent selection of quality headsets to fit all your computing needs. Check them out at Headsets Direct or call their headset experts at 800-914-7996 to see how headsets can make your peer-to-peer communication so much easier.

You get in your car on a cold snowy morning, turn the key to start the engine and…the battery is dead! You’re at your daughter’s wedding reach for the camera to take those special pictures and…the battery is dead! You grab your headset to answer the phone and close that big million dollar deal when…the battery is dead! No doubt your response to all three scenarios is the same…why now!?! (Sorry, but we can’t print what you really want to say).

Yes, a healthy fully-charged and long-lasting battery is essential in so many situations. At Plantronics that need has not fallen on deaf ears. Ever since they entered the field of wireless communication, Plantronics has strived to provide a battery to meet the demands of the busy professional on the go. Their first attempts were fairly large and cumbersome external batteries (oh, how they would always catch on things and fall off at that critical juncture in a conversation) but they were not deterred. As technology advanced so did Plantronics’ efforts to come up with a compact unobtrusive battery that would provide the maximum talk time customers needed for their headsets. What they came up with was the 64399-01 lithium-ion battery, a battery for all reasons when it comes to Plantronics wireless headsets. Easy to disconnect and connect, the 64399-01 battery, along with the Plantronics’ low-battery early warning system, won’t leave you silent in the middle of that important call.

Call Headsets Direct today (800-914-7996) to order your spare 64399-01 battery and ask them about the latest in wireless technology.

Question: Is the 03929-63 Headsets Direct’s Training Adapter just for wireless headsets? I have an older S10 amplifier and some headsets, and would like to use them for training.

Answer: In a word, no, it has multiple applications (okay five words). A Headsets Direct original product, the 03929-63 Training Adapter began as an answer to our customers’ complaints of why isn’t there an effective way for two people on wireless headsets to train together. They were constantly whining: “Why doesn’t Plantronics have an adapter for training wirelessly?” We didn’t have an answer so our design engineers got together and worked tirelessly in the lab until the 03929-63 Training Adapter was born. In the words of another famous engineer (albeit a little on the mad side): “IT’S ALIIIVE!” Well, that’s how it came to be, and after the euphoric melodrama had subsided, it proved to be very effective for its intended purpose of uniting two wireless headsets for training. Now, with proper training and more mobility, workers could multi-task more efficiently and businesses could squeeze the most out of their smaller, already stretched staff.

Then our engineers put their brains together again and thought: “Hmm, can we use this baby in other applications?” So, they returned to the lab to test other systems and see how they could expand the versatility and usefulness of their new little creation. And wouldn’t you know it, that little sucker has turned out to be more than a one-hit wonder, shazam! While with some Plantronics amplifiers it’s better to use the 27019-03 PLX Y-Training Cord (e.g. M22 and two HW251), the 03929-63 Training Adapter can unite many more diverse devices in communication harmony. It’s so universal you can use it to unite Plantronics wireless (CS540) with corded models (M22); it can bring together two headsets behind one amplifier (like your S10); you can use it with an amplifier, corded or wireless, and the telephone handset; you can use it with Plantronics and GN (or any other brand) as long as they’re nice to each other, and it even works for you tightwads who hang on to ancient headsets and amplifiers like the PLX400 (hey, they’re still workin’ dude). Harmony! Might this really be “the dawning of the age of Aquarius?”

Give the sales team at Headsets Direct a call (800-914-7996) and see what else the 03929-63 Headset Direct’s Headset Training Adapter can do for you. Remember, harmony is a good thing.

No matter how many times you ask yourself, and all the other drivers out on the road, to please be careful, look where you are driving, you do the same thing almost every time you drive somewhere. I have pulled out of my driveway, and then looked to see if someone else was pulling out. One time we looked like a well-rehearsed commercial. I have broken that habit, thank you very much. I tell myself to look at the head bangers in the car next to me and wonder how they can hear a siren even if it was right next to them. It is NOT just kids, it is all ages. Singing at the top of your voice, going over the agenda on what you need to do, even though you have a written note next to you, as well as driving directions. Oh, I want to hear that new CD I just got on my Ipod. STOP! You can make a difference. I have a new headset, the M1100 from Plantronics. Distracted driving, we all live it, drive it, and accept it. One in six highway deaths are attributed to just this cause alone. How tragic that this is happening, not just to the young people, but to the 30-39 year olds who had the highest proportion of cell phone involvement.

In 2009, there were 30,797 fatal crashes in the United States which involved 45,230 drivers. Today it is worse than ever. Just the other day a school bus crashed, why? Texting while driving. If you are working, your cell phone needs to be turned off. If your cell phone is part of your job, and your job includes traveling, use a headset.

There are advantages to having a headset that will do the work for you. Voice texting is one of them. You don’t have to have a smart phone to use this program, it is part of the one year free service that comes from Plantronics Vocalyst. You don’t have to remove your hands to answer a call. Simply say “answer” or ignore. Voice recognition for calling, “call Sue”, then Sue is called. If Sue does not answer I can send her text, by voice, never once having to pick up my phone, scroll through contacts, dial her number, oops, almost ran over the bike left in the road. One second is all it takes to be distracted, one second to regret looking away from the road.

Don’t be the distracted person, be responsible, and wear a headset. Be a leader with your friends, insist on them being used. Make a mountain with your voice, be proactive in your community, and let your voice be heard through your Bluetooth.

I ordered the HL10 Handset Lifter as a replacement for one that broke after two years of operation. The replacement is 99% the same, I say 99% because of one small problem, the 3.5mm plug is different…

Unfortunately it can really be easy to get the wrong plug type when you don’t know or don’t realize that you have a choice in lifters. Plantronics actually does make two different versions of the HL10 Handset Lifter; the standard HL10 Handset Lifter (Plantronics part number 60961-32) and the HL10 “straight plug” Handset Lifter (Plantronics part number 60961-35). They both go by the same “HL10” model, but they have different manufacturer part numbers. The only difference between the two versions is the shape and design of the actual 3.5mm plug on the end of the cable; the standard HL10 lifter has a 90 degree angled plug, while the HL10 “straight plug” lifter has a longer straight plug with no angles.

The standard Plantronics HL10 Handset Lifter (Plantronics part number 60961-32) was designed to be used with the Plantronics wireless headset systems that have the lifter jack on the bottom of the base unit, such as the Plantronics CS50, CS55, CS70, CS70N, CS351, CS351N, CS361, CS361N, Voyager 510S, AWH-54, etc. The standard HL10 Handset Lifter (part number 60961-32) is the more universal plug model and therefore will also work on the newer Plantronics CS500 series and the Plantronics Savi W700 series headset systems as well (the lifter jack on the newer wireless headset models is located on the back of the base unit, as opposed to the older units where it is located on the bottom).

The Plantronics HL10 “straight plug” Handset Lifter (Plantronics part number 60961-35) was designed to be used with the newer Plantronics wireless headset systems that have the lifter jack on the back of the base unit such as; Plantronics Savi WO100, Savi WO200, Savi WO300, and Savi WO350; the newer “CS” models, CS510, CS520, CS540; and the newer Savi models, W710, W720, W730, and W740. Although the Plantronics HL10 “straight plug” Handset Lifter (part number 60961-35) was made specifically to work with these newer headset models, just remember that you can still use the standard HL10 Handset Lifter (part number 60961-32) on these too. So as long as your existing Handset Lifter is working fine, you can upgrade your headset without needing to upgrade your HL10 Handset Lifter.

However if you have the Plantronics HL10 “straight plug” Handset Lifter (part number 60961-35), it will technically work with the older headset models that have the lifter jack on the bottom of the base unit, but it will not fit properly. And you may be able to buy an aftermarket 3.5mm extension cable that has a 90 degree plug that will better adapt the HL10 “straight plug” to the older Plantronics headset system, that way the base isn’t “jacked up”, but you are probably better off to just get the correct lifter. The standard Plantronics HL10 Handset Lifter (Plantronics part number 60961-32) with the 90 degree plug may be the better choice simply because it is more universal. Hopefully this information gives a little clarity and understanding to the Plantronics HL10 Handset Lifter conundrum, that there really are two different ones, and helps you to make the right choice between the two versions for the proper lifter that you need.

When I use this headset I can relax, it is easy on the ear with the leatherette earpad. This headset comes with a noise-cancelling microphone that has an adjustable and extendable boom for exact positioning. The HW291N Headset lets you hear conversation around you so you know what is going on, but at the same time the noise-cancelling microphone will eliminate the background noise so that your client doesn’t hear. This headset features a quick disconnect and can be used with either a cable that is compatible with your phone, or an M22 amplifier. This headset supports AudioIQ and Clearline audio technologies. You have the assurance that this headset will give you precise listening level, sophisticated hearing protection and superior audio performance. This headset offers great balance, fit and comfort, and can be worn on either the right or left ear.

When you pair this up with an M22 or AP15 amplifier, the HW291N EncorePro Headset will give a better performance. You have more options for microphone, hearing, and phone compatibility. This headset is used in call centers across America based on the phone type and model; you can use either a cable or amplifier.

Plantronics Compatibility Guide

With this information you can determine which cord or amplifier works best with your phone. This headset can easily be used with a quick disconnect and USB cord for those who have soft phone or computer calling.

With the wideband audio provided in the headset, this will extend the frequency radio range of audio signals transmitted over telephone lines, resulting in better quality speech. Traditional or narrowband telephone calls limit audio frequencies to the range between 300 Hz to 3.4 kHz. Wideband audio increases the bandwidth limitation and transmits in the audio range to 50 Hz to 7 kHz or higher.

OK, now you have the headset and your cable or amplifier, you are ready to talk. No more shoulder and neck pain from squishing them together to hold the phone in place. You really are hands free with this headset. Free to be able to type, rummage through files, write notes, all while on the headset with your client.

Headsets Direct developed a product several years ago that allows you to use your Plantronics wireless headsets for training purposes. This little device, part number 03929-63, will work on just about any office phone that your Plantronics wireless headset works on. It’s really very simple to set up and use. It allows you to choose which headset you would like live and which headset you would like muted. With two Plantronics wireless headsets each person could be sitting at their own desk while on the same call, just keep in mind the headsets need to be within range of both bases and the two bases will be on one desk connected to one phone. You could also leave both headsets live (maybe for a mini conference call).

HDI’s wireless training adapter can be used on a wide range of Plantronics wireless and corded products. Note: I’m not sure if other brands of headsets will work with this wireless training adapter, as Plantronics is the only brand we sell. In most scenarios the training adapter plugs into the HANDset Jack on your phone.

Here are a few examples of Plantronics products that can be used on the wireless training adapter:

1. Wireless headsets; two are needed.

2. Some of Plantronics corded products without a quick disconnect: Like the S11 and S12 units; in the past there was not a way to train on either of these units with two headsets in use. (There are a couple different ways to set up the training adapter when using the S11 and S12 units.)

3. Use one wireless headset and your telephone’s HANDset receiver.

4. Use one wireless headset and one vista amplifier with headset.

Note: If using one vista amplifier and two H-series headsets, it is best to go with the Plantronics

Y-Training adapter.

If you have any questions about the Headsets Directs training adapter please give us a call, any of our sales team will be more than happy to help you — 800-914-7996.
