Problem: I’m looking for good quality headsets for an office with 10-15 employees. Some will not be leaving their desks but others will be moving around. I have a standard multi-line PBX office phone system. What do you recommend?

Solution: PBX (private branch exchange) is a broad term that covers many brands of office phones. Knowing the make and model of phone is what’s necessary to find an exact fit but these guidelines should help you in your research. First, we’ll consider corded headsets for your office phones. An office phone will generally fall under two categories with regards to headsets. The phone that requires an amplifier, such as Panasonic, Vodavi or RCA, and the phone that can use a direct connect cable, such as Cisco, Mitel or Nortel.

Plantronics’ most popular amplifier, the M22, is compatible with more than 92% of the office phones on the market today. It is compatible with both single-line and multi-line phones, and features their patented quick-disconnect cable which allows you to select any number of their office phone headsets. Regardless of what environment you work in or what style you like, with the M22 amplifier they’re sure to have an office phone headset to fit your needs. A word of caution: some phones have a 2.5mm jack for headsets but Plantronics does not recommend routing office phone headsets through this jack since the power requirements are greater than this jack can put out. Check out our headsets at http://www.headsetsdirect.com/plantronics-corded-headsets/office-headsets.html or call one of our office phone headset specialists at 800-914-7996 to see what’s best for you.

Another corded solution is the direct connect cable. You use the same office phone headsets but, depending on the make and model of phone, you can use a specific cable to connect your headset, bypassing the need of an amplifier (e.g. Cisco IP7960 uses cable # 26716-01). Here you will need to know what phones you’re using since there are several cables to choose from.

Now, let’s briefly discuss wireless office phone headsets. Have you heard of the Avaya Partner phone? We bring it up because it’s unique among office phones. It’s an analog system that can use the CS55H wireless headset without the need of a handset lifter or electronic hook switch for remote answer / end. The CS55H’s unique connecting cable (TR-1) allows it to connect to the auxiliary jack on the bottom of the phone bypassing the need of the lifter. What about wireless headsets for the other makes and models of office phones? Most will require the handset lifter (HL10) for remote answer / end since you will be connecting the headset to your office phone through the handset jack of the phone. You can choose between the CS line (e.g. CS55) and the Savi line (e.g. WO100). There a few office phone models that can use an electronic hook switch (EHS) for remote answer / end, bypassing the need for the handset lifter (HL10), however, thus far the lifter has proved more reliable. You can check all our wireless headsets at http://www.headsetsdirect.com/plantronics-wireless-headsets/wireless-office.html or call us today, 800-914-7996.

Problem: I just bought this newfangled cordless phone for my home that has the latest Dect 6.0 wireless digital technology. It does everything short of polishing your shoes! I know some of the older models used 900 MHz, 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz frequency profiles and headsets worked fine with them but now we have Dect 6.0. What cordless phone headset can I use for my phone?

Solution: Well, it’s not as complicated as you might think but before we talk about headsets for your cordless phone, we want to briefly highlight Plantronics’ cordless phone with a headset, the CT14.

What are some of the features of this nifty cordless phone? Well, it’s a convertible headset – headband and ear loop included. It has a maximum 300 foot range and the Dect 6.0 (1.9 GHz) digital technology so you can talk continuously for 10 hours on the rechargeable battery. Installation is easy since it plugs into any standard telephone jack. The remote unit includes a dial pad (Note: This unit does not have Speed Dial like earlier versions) and the base has a headset stand. It supports Caller ID / Call Waiting (must subscribe with telephone company) and comes with a 1-year warranty. Perhaps this may be just what you’re looking for so click Plantronics CT14 and check out what our cordless phone with headset, the CT14, has to offer.

Now, what about headsets for your Dect 6.0 cordless phone? Our top of the line model headset for cordless phones would be the CS55H. It’s a wireless headset and works with most, if not all, single line analog phone systems.

Here are some other features of the CS55H: Hands-free freedom up to 300 feet, and up to 10 full hours of talk time. It offers one-touch control over call answer/end, volume and mute. Enjoy all-day comfort with interchangeable ear loops or headband options. The voice-dedicated 1.9GHz frequency limits wireless interference and the noise-canceling microphone filters out background noises. It also carries the Plantronics 1-Year warranty. For more click Plantronics CS55H.

PROBLEM: What do you have that is wireless and will work with my cordless phone and/or office phone at home?

SOLUTION: Plantronics CS55H wireless headset would be the perfect fit for your type of phones. It is made especially for single line cordless phones, but can also be used with a single line corded phone. This system will only work with single line telephones.

The Plantronics CS55H Home Edition is a little different than your typical Plantronics wireless units, the CS55H comes with an adapter module (TR1) which allows you to plug the headset system into a wall jack instead of the jack on your phone.

You can plug the Plantronics CS55H wireless headset into any wall jack in your home regardless of where the cordless phone is plugged in, as long as all of your wall jacks are on the same phone line. If you are using a mixture of cordless and corded phones (like an office phone) in your home, this unit will still work for you. When you want to use the corded phone to make a call, you will need to press the button on the headset to turn it on, then pick up the handset and take it out of the cradle to dial out just like normal. Once you hear the ring in your headset, just hang up your phone. If you want to make a call from the cordless phone, it is basically the same procedure. Turn on your headset, then grab your cordless phone and dial out like normal. Once you hear the ring in your headset, just turn off the cordless phone. And to end a call for either scenario, just press the same button on the headset again to turn the headset off and end the call.

The best thing about the Plantronics CS55H wireless headset is that you can answer from anywhere in your home with just your headset, you will not need your cordless handset to answer incoming calls. You will have hands free freedom up to 300 ft distance and the system gives you up to 10 full hrs of talk time. With just one touch of the button you can answer or end calls. The CS55H is a convertible headset, you will receive both ear loops and a headband, so you can choose the style you would like to use. The headset also has volume and mute control features. There are volume controls on the charging base also for fine tuning. The microphone is noise cancelling to filter out background noise. The CS55H will also work with the Avaya Partner 18D and 34D telephones system allowing remote answer and hang-up without the use of the HL10 handset lifter.

Problem: I bought a CS55H wireless headset system for my cordless phone at home. I love this unit and I don’t want to give it up but I’m switching over to a multiple line corded phone. I can’t afford to buy a new wireless system, so I was wondering if this unit would work on my new phone and if not, is there anything that will convert it over to work on my new phone?

Solution: Yes, you can use this unit on your new phone. If you are using a single line phone you will use the CS55H wireless headset system the same way you are on your cordless phone. If you are using a multiple line phone then you would need to do this step: First you will take off the modular adapter that came with the CS55H; this is called a TR1 and is plugged into your phone jack in the wall. You will use the same cord that is plugged into the TR1, to plug into your handset jack on your phone. This cord is coming from the base of the CS55H and is plugged into the jack with a picture of a phone above it. If you look at the TR1, you will see that one end has two cords coming out of it, one cord is hardwired into the modular (it cannot be removed) and the other one can be removed. Take the cord that you can remove out of the TR1 and place it into the handset jack on your phone. Plug your handset cord into the base of the CS55H.

Now you can use your original CS55H wireless headset system on your new phone. If you are using a multiple line phone and want to be hands free, you will need to purchase a handset lifter (sells for $68.00). With the lifter you will be able to answer your phone with just a push of a button on your headset. If not, all you will need to do is pick up the handset and move it to the side of your phone every time you want to take or make a call. When you are done with the call place the handset back in the cradle and turn off your headset. So now you are back in business without spending a lot of money, if any.

What is the Plantronics CS55H Home Edition?
CS55H is a wireless headset system that allows crystal clear, hands free phone conversations at home. It is ideal for home-based professionals who need to multitask while on the phone. The CS55H offers freedom, comfort and convenience, in addition to improved productivity.

What is the difference between the CS55 and the CS55H Home Edition?
Unlike the CS55 that is meant to be used with office phones in an office environment, the CS55H works with cordless phones in a home environment.

Can I use the CS55H Home Edition with my office phone at work?
The CS55H Home Edition is not ideal for using with an office phone as it doesn’t come with the HL10 handset lifter that is strongly recommended for use with office PBX phones. The CS55H home phone adapter replaces the need for a lifter when used with PSTN lines.

Do I need a special phone for this?
No, the CS55H works with any home cordless phone, regardless of brand, model or frequency range (GHz). The CS55H also works with Vonage VOIP service but might require a “pigtail” adapter available at any consumer electronics store in order for splitter to fit in the Vonage box.

Does it also work with a corded phone?
The CS55H Home Edition can work with a corded home phone. The set-up is the same as with a cordless phone.

Why wouldn’t you just use the standard CS55?
A standard CS55 for the office could work with a corded phone in a home environment but not with a cordless phone. In addition, the standard CS55 would require the use of a HL10 handset lifter with a home corded phone to allow remote call answering. Instead, the CS55H home phone adapter replaces the need for a handset lifter both with corded and cordless home phones.

Does it work with a 2-line phone?
Strictly speaking yes, but the user has to decide which of the 2 lines to install the CS55H on.

How do I make a call with the CS55H Home Edition?
In order to dial a call, the user:
- Dials the number on the cordless phone
- Presses the button on the headset once the call is connected
- Hangs up the phone and keeps talking while walking up to 300 ft away from the base.

Can I answer calls using the headset?
Yes, with the CS55H headset, you can remotely answer phone calls at home up to 300 ft away from the CS55 base. The actual range varies and depends on the home layout (number of walls, construction materials etc.).

Can I end calls using the headset?
You can end calls by simply pressing the button on the headset.
Important note: If the user didn’t hang up the phone while using the headset (not recommended as it can create buzz or echo), ending the call via the headset will not hang up the call on the regular phone. In other words, the call will still be active on the handset.

Do I have Caller ID with my CS55H Home Edition?
Yes, if the user subscribes to this phone service, Caller ID will show on the phone handset as long as it is turned on.

Can I view Caller ID for an incoming call (Call waiting) while using the headset?
If the user is on a call using the headset and receives another incoming call, he/she will hear the “Call Waiting” beep in the headset provided he/she subscribes to that phone service. In order to view the Caller ID for the incoming call, he/she needs to turn the regular phone back on by pressing “talk”.

Can I switch between calls (“Flash” feature) using the headset?
If the user is on a call using the headset and receives another incoming call, pressing the headset button will simply hang up the current call but will not switch to the new incoming call.
Important note: The “Flash” feature (user needs to subscribe to this service offered by phone providers) is deactivated when the CS55H headset is turned on. In other words, if the user turns the phone back on during an incoming call in order to view incoming Caller ID, pressing the “Flash” button on the handset will not switch to the other call.
Instead, the user can do the following to transfer to another incoming call:
a) turn the phone back on by pressing “talk”
b) turn the headset off
c) then only, press the “flash” button on phone to pick up the incoming call
d) turn the headset back on if desired

Will this affect my answering machine?
No, CS55H should not affect your answering machine. If a call is not picked up by the user, it will be sent to the answering machine.

Will this affect my voicemail service?
No, CS55H should not affect your voicemail. If a call is not picked up by the user, it will be sent to voicemail.

Can I check my voicemail using the CS55H headset?
Yes, in order to check voicemail, the user needs have both the headset and the phone turned on at the same time. It is however recommended to turn the phone off when on a regular headset call not requiring any digit entry.

What happens if I need to enter digits while using the CS55H headset?
When entering digits on the phone while on an active headset call, the user will hear the dial tones in the headset. Again, it is recommended to turn the phone off when on a regular headset call that no longer requires any digit entry.

Can I use the headset with my cell phone?
The CS55H headset is not a Bluetooth headset and will not work with Bluetooth-enabled cell phones.

What is 1.9GHz DECT wireless frequency and why is it important?
The 1.9 GHz DECT frequency is a new voice dedicated radio frequency recently made available by the United States FCC. It is reserved for voice communications only. That means that headsets built on 1.9GHz DECT will not experience interference from devices like wireless network equipment, microwave ovens and other wireless devices – as can occasionally happen with 900 MHz and more often with 2.4 GHz products. Plantronics believes that this new band is the best technology for wireless voice products, delivering interference-free connections for customers.

What kind of realistic range will I get with this product?
The user should be able to get up to 300 feet from the CS55H base. However, the actual range can significantly vary and depends on the home layout (number of walls, construction materials etc.).

What are my wearing style options?
CS55H comes with 2 wearing styles options: over-the-ear and over-the-head.

What is the battery life of the headset?
The CS55 offers 10 hours of talk time and 50 hours of standby time.

Does it have a microphone adjust switch like Plantronics’ other cordless phone headsets?
Yes, the CS55 offers several ways to adjust both the microphone (talking) volume and the listening volume. The talking volume can be adjusted on the base while the listening volume can be adjusted both on the base and on the headset.

How easy is the product set up?
The CS55H comes with color labels that the user simply has to match in order to correctly install the product. It also comes with “Read Me First” instructions in addition to a comprehensive user manual.

What is the adapter for?
The home phone adapter that comes with CS55H Home Edition is a PSTN/ landline adapter that allows a standard CS55 to work in a home environment.

Why don’t you need a lifter?
The home phone adapter replaces the need for a handset lifter. The user can remotely answer calls without having to walk back to the base.

Will I need a new phone (wall) jack to operate this?
CS55H comes with an RJ11 phone cable and a splitter.

How do I charge the headset and how do I know it is charging?
The headset has to be gently pushed into the charging cradle to charge. Light indicators indicate it is successfully charging.

What are basic troubleshooting tips?
A: It will work with a small adjustment. You will need the phone filter cord, part # 66291-01. First you need to disconnect the 2 TR-1 connectors from the bottom of the CS55H since you will not be using this item. Attach the new phone filter cord to the jack that has the phone symbol. Then connect the filter cord to your Northern Telecom Phone through the handset port, NOT THE HEADSET PORT. You will also need a handset lifter (HL10) to be hands free!
